Congressman Rubén Hinojosa announced the Department of Education (DOE) awarded IDEA Public Schools in Weslaco a grant for $150,938 under their Replication and Expansion Grants Program.

"IDEA Public Schools continues its great track record of providing excellent educational opportunities for our students in the Rio Grande Valley," said U.S. Rep. Hinojosa. "I congratulate them on this latest DOE grant award that will help more students receive a quality education."

The DOE awards these grants to eligible applicants to enable them to replicate or expand the number of high-quality charter schools with demonstrated records of success, including success in increasing student academic achievement.

Grantees may use their Charter Schools Program funds to expand the enrollment of one or more existing charter schools by substantially increasing the number of available seats per school, or to open one or more new charter schools that are based on the charter school model for which the eligible applicant has presented evidence of success.
